TelevisionThe Turnoff Week Committee is planning a great week for our Central Families. This year, Turnoff Week is being held April 20 to April 26, 2009. This Week is a worldwide event sponsored by the Center for Screen-Time Awareness and celebrated by schools, families, and other civic and community groups each year. During Turnoff Week, millions of children and adults pledge to spend seven days screen-free. Instead of watching or playing games on the screen, they read, exercise, work in their communities and spend time with family and friends.

Studies find that during the course of the year, children spend more time in front of the television than in school. We think that Turnoff Week is a great way to jump start our children into more reading, learning, and active play. Plus, it’s a whole lot of fun for the family.

From April 20—26, we ask your support in our efforts. We will be sending home materials for your family in March to help you prepare and plan your week. We will be asking the students to pledge to a screen-free week. The students will also have an opportunity to enter a national poster and essay contest, and we will be holding a prize lottery for participants. Interested in helping?  We could use your talents. Our next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 18th at 7pm at the Riverside Public Library. For information, please contact Ingrid Lulich (contact information in the student directory). Come out and play.
