TelevisionWhat a great week. Did you unplug? I hope you and your families had a wonderful time together while being unplugged. We had 175 participants during Turn Off Week from Central School. 56 prizes are being distributed this week — from jump ropes and kites, to zoo passes, lunch with teachers, and, don’t forget: each participant in Turn Off Week will receive a Central School wristband. All posters and essays will be submitted to the National Turn Off Week program for entry into their contest. For details see www.tvturnoff.org.

I would like to thank the Central School PTO and PTO President Mary Ellen Meindl, Dr. Limperis and the teachers and staff at Central School for their support during Turn Off Week. Thank you for believing this week could happen and would be fun. I would also like to thank the Riverside Arts Center and Principle Dance for their participation and generous time in offering mini-classes to our students. I would like to thank the Riverside Library for their support in offering an Astronomy program. What a day for the Frederick Law Olmsted Society — a record turn-out. Many thanks to FLOS for supporting us and providing a landscape work day during Turn Off Week and reaching out to our children. Special thanks to Dr. Limperis, Dr. Lamberson, Miss Keller, Miss Meenan, and Mrs. McCarthy in offering their time and company as a prize to our children. What a gift. Thanks also goes to Mrs. Scaggs and Ms. Johnson for their donation of prizes and thank you to parents Molly Carl and Sue Pipal for their donation of prizes.

Thank you to Ms. Vizek and the Ecology Club for the fantastic bookmarks and ideas for Turn Off Week.

Thank you also to the 3d grade Girl Scouts, Troop # 657, and Cub Scouts, Den #9, for their posters in the school to promote Turn Off Week. Thank you to the 2d grade Brownie troop, #238, for the most excellent banner made and hung in the school lobby. You made decorating the school a treat for the eyes.

An overwhelming THANK YOU and round of applause to my committee: Karen Doornebos, Linda Dwyer, Maddalena Flight, Lynette Johnson, Susan Lynch, Holly Machina, Teacher Erin McCarthy, Sue Pipal, Jennifer Robinson, and Dorie Skiest for their support and hard work in making this a great week. I could not have done it without any of you. Your time and commitment are very much appreciated.
