We had our biggest book fair to date and sold over

$13,000 worth of books.

Based on those sales, close to $7300 worth of books will go directly to our library, classrooms, and reading specialist.  We have already gifted over $1300 worth of books to the library.  They were delivered to Mrs. Bieschke during the actual book fair so our students should have access to them now if not shortly.   The PTO raffled off close to $100 worth of books to the Central students as a thank you to them for participating so fully in the book fair this year.

We would like to send a BIG THANK YOU to Central students and their families for so generously providing their spare change to the One for Books initiative.  We collected close to $600 of which a big portion went back to helping Central’s own students.  These students might not otherwise have been able to participate in purchasing books from the book fair.  We were also able to donate $270 worth of books with the extra One for Books change to the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago.

Scholastic matches our change collection with an equivalent donation of books that go to various national non-profit organizations dedicated to helping families in need.  So our $600 change collection has the philanthropic value of almost $1200!

Congratulations to Ms. McCarthy’s 5th grade class who collected the most change for One for Books. They are the recipients of a pizza party on Friday, May 21st compliments of The PTO’s Kids Care Commiteee.

What a successful fair

The Book Fair translated directly into great things for our students!  Again, we couldn’t have done it without the over 75 volunteers who participated!  Thank you and we hope that you will consider participating again next year.
