Book Fair Update & Thank You

If you hold a book fair during the week of the blizzard of 2011 and subzero temperatures…they will come!

To all of the Central families and teachers, your support of the book fair this year far exceeded our expectations.  With losing a full day due to the blizzard and the bitter cold during the night of the Winter Wonderland Social, we were very worried.  It turns out that there was no need to be as your generosity helped us to have an incredibly successful event.  We sold more than $11,300 worth of books and as a result, earned $6,800 in books (only $625 less than last year!) for our school library and various needs throughout the school. $818 worth of books were delivered to the Central Library on the last day of the book fair.  Gail Biescke was planning on cataloging them and starting the book covering process that very afternoon in order to get them into the hands of our students as soon as possible.

A whopping $717 in change was collected from our students for One for Books.  A portion of that was used to help students at Central who might not have otherwise been able to shop the book fair due to economic reasons.  The remaining $466 was used to provide brand new books to the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago!

Thank you very much for your patience while standing in the very long lines to check out during the Winter Wonderland Social evening.  We have already spoken to Scholastic and a third cash register will be sent next year (we begged this year and they refused).

To all the parent volunteers that made our Book Fair a tremendous success this year,

thank you!  Your support and effort was greatly appreciated.  We could not have accomplished this without the help of more than 75 volunteers.  Special thanks goes out to:

Katie Leander and Jennifer Barnes for handling all of the incredible decorations and their generous donation of the supplies needed for them

Karina Esparza for taking on the Wish List Board

Jennifer Gentile for being our volunteer coordinator

Patrick O’Laughlin for being our teacher liaison

Cheryl Dowling for coordinating the successful One for Books

and to Cathy Louthen for being willing to don that Clifford costume one last time before she leaves us last as well as Matthew Pilewski from Hauser

Thank you for making the Book Fair a great experience!
