Please use extreme caution when dropping off and picking up your children.  Parents continue to double park, talk on their cell phones, park in the middle of the street, block traffic, back up into the cross walk and drive recklessly.  Late last week a crossing guard was hit while crossing 2 children in the cross walk by a Riverside Resident.  With the snow piled high and the traffic getting worse, people are more and more impatient which is creating a very unsafe environment.

We are in the process of forming a safety committee to look at ways of easing congestion and the mayhem of the Woodside drop off and pick up.  Please e-mail me if you would like to participate.  I am also including a reminder from the Riverside Police who have stepped up enforcement of traffic laws in front of Central.  Thank you

The Riverside Police Department reminds parents to use caution when dropping off or picking up students at area schools.

With the arrival of bad weather, we can expect an increase of traffic around our schools. Your child’s safety is our main concern.

  • When driving to school, obey traffic signs and no parking areas around the schools.
  • Use the designated drop off areas.
  • Use the marked crosswalks when crossing and remind children to cross at designated crosswalks.
  • Drive with caution in the school zones and watch for children crossing.
  • Don’t park blocking neighbor’s driveways or crosswalks.
  • Don’t double park, as this will cause children to run out into the street and block other drivers vision.
  • If you can’t find a safe spot to park, don’t tie up traffic. Go around the block again to prevent holding up traffic.
  • Don’t use cell phones or other electronic devices
