Calling all parents interested in RAIN!! We are having a parent informational meeting:

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012
Riverside Public Library
7pm in the lower level

The RAIN Committee is interested in hearing from you. We need to know what you are interested in learning. What can the committee do to help you? You do not need to have a child with an IEP, just interested in Inclusion and learning differences. RAIN is a committee of D96 parents (ECE too). We are helping to promote awareness, education, support, networking and acceptance of students with learning differences.

We meet the third Wednesday in the Riverside Public Library for support and educational events.

Central School’s KidsCare program was organized to help promote the importance and impact of charity. This year, KidsCare has the opportunity to have more of an impact with over 30 families, more than ever before, but we need your help. While the number of Riverside families in need has risen this year, donations have dropped. We need your assistance so we can help our Riverside community.

If you can find it in your heart this holiday season to make a donation, of any size, please put it in an envelope marked KidsCare and put it into your child’s backpack OR drop it off at the Central School office, attention KidsCare by Friday, 10 am, December 16th. If you have any questions about how this money will be used, please contact Cheryl Dowling. Thank you very much for your generosity.

Don’t Miss Charley’s Aunt at Hauser Tonight 7PM

Hauser Jr. High School will be performing one of Britain’s longest running comedies, Charley’s Aunt, Wednesday November 16 at 7 p.m., in the Hauser auditorium. The three-act farce, written by Brandon Thomas, is one of the most beloved and performed plays in high schools, colleges, and community theaters. It has a musical spin off and been made into at least three movies.

“This could be one of the most enjoyable shows that we have ever performed. It’s just plain funny,” said Dave Mason, one of the co-directors of the show.

“We are so excited to be presenting such a well-known comedy to the Riverside community. Rehearsals have been lots of fun, and the kids have truly enjoyed the witty, quick-paced dialogue,” said Karina Koncius, the show’s other co-director.

In the comedy, college gents are trying to impress their girls, but can only spend time with them in the company of a chaperone. Charley’s aunt promises to come for luncheon, but cancels at the last minute. In her place, one of the gents’ friends dresses up as an older lady and pretends to be Charley’s aunt. What more needs to be said? The situation speaks for itself!

The performances are free and open to the public, and donations are welcome.

RAIN Showing of “Including Samuel”, Thursday, November 17, 6-8 pm

Please come to an educational event sponsored by OPIN (Oak Park Inclusion Network) and RAIN (Riverside Area Inclusion Network) on Thursday, November 17, 6-8 pm, at the Maze Branch, 845 Gunderson, Oak Park.

The event will feature a screening of the film, “Including Samuel” a documentary which examines the educational and social inclusion of youth with disabilities.* The film will be followed by a short panel discussion featuring Dr. Paula Kluth on inclusive education.

*Please note that the movie is for educational/informational purposes only, and does not necessarily reflect the views/opinions of Central PTO. Interpretations may vary, as with any topic.

Don’t forget to record your child’s distance walked or biked to Central on Wednesday, October 5th. Use MapQuest or Google Maps or any other mileage tracking method to determine the distance. Then visit the quick online survey to submit your number of miles. Let’s see how far Central students walked/biked!
