Central’s Halloween Fun – Friday, October 30

CENTRAL SCHOOL HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES
Friday, October 30, 2009

Please be sure to select safe, non-violent, comfortable and appropriate costumes for your child. Favorite story characters, super-heroes, historical figures and sports figures create more fun! Play weapons, candy cigarettes, fake blood, reference to alcohol, etc. are not permitted at any time at Central School. If a child brings these items, the items will be held in the office until a parent picks them up.

ACTIVITY SCHEDULE:

11:30 TO 1:00	Extended lunch hour-early dismissal. We ask that students make every effort to go home for lunch in order to dress in Halloween costumes. Students should not return earlier than 12:50.
1:00—	Students are in classrooms.
1:15—	Halloween play by the PTO Players in Hauser auditorium. Guests, please sit in the balcony.
1:45—	Halloween parade – outside if weather permits. A fabulous picture opportunity.
2:15—	Room parties – treats and games provided by the PTO. Room parents will assist in each classroom.

Kindergarten Info: Morning kindergarten students have class on Friday, October 30.
They are invited to attend the festivities in the afternoon.

Following school is an opportunity to support our Downtown merchants. Head down to the Riverside Chamber of Commerce Treat or Treat Event. Participating merchants are handing out candy to their favorite Ghosts, Princesses and Luke Skywalkers from 3:00 to 5:00 on the 30th after school. This is also a good time to find the artwork you created at the Riverside Art Day.

Halloween Windows Art Day Saturday 10/17

It’s time to create your art for the Riverside Halloween Windows project. If you signed up, please join us at the Riverside Township Hall at your reserved time (sometime between 8:00 and 4:00). Central Halloween Fun – October 30th

The Central PTO is planning a fabulous Halloween afternoon, Friday, October 30th for our children.

The children are encouraged to go home for lunch and arrive back at school dressed in their Halloween costumes. The school is, of course, open for those students who can not, or will not, go home for lunch.

The brilliant and always comical PTO Players will present a Halloween themed play followed by a ghoulish Halloween Class Party.

The Village of Riverside official Halloween Trick-or-Treat hours are Saturday, October 31st from 3:00 to 7:00pm.

Reserve Your Halloween Window by 10/9

Calling all 1st through 5th graders: it’s time to decorate the windows of our local Riverside businesses. But instead of painting directly on the windows, we’ll be meeting on Saturday October 17 at Riverside Township Hall and painting on paper. Those paintings will then be displayed in the businesses’ windows for two weeks.

A limited number of spaces are available: reserve yours today. Visit the Riverside Halloween Windows website for additional information and for convenient online registration. There’s also a link to the paper form if you’d rather fill it out by hand and return it to the school office.

The registration deadline is October 9th.

The Halloween Windows Project is being coordinated this year by Elliot Louthen, a Troop 24 Boy Scout.

Casting Call for our Halloween Play – Talent optional

For centuries, Central School parents/ grandparents/ guardians have given their all to entertain. The Central Halloween play is performed by Central parents and enjoyed by the Central children, staff and parents.

Are you feeling the call of the Theater?

What’s involved:

AM rehearsals (9-11) for 2 weeks in October
Opening and closing matinee performance at 1 PM on October 30
Children roar with amusement (if we get it right)
Children leave for the costume parade and room party (with joy in their hearts)

Interested yet reluctant to get on the stage? We are currently casting for talkie parts as well as back stage help.

No commitment is too small, or too big, for that matter! If this is something you are remotely interested in, we’ll consider it.

Your child will never forget, nor forgive, you for participating.

Help Wanted: Central School PTO Committee Chair Volunteers (2009-2010)

Are you looking for a great opportunity to help our kids and Central School? If so, we need your help. The following PTO Committee Chair/Co-Chair positions are available and looking for enthusiastic volunteers:

Book Fair – Lead and coordinate the spring fund raiser April 5 – 9, 2010. There are many assistant volunteers to help – we need someone to coordinate their activities in setting up, decorating, scheduling for classrooms, cashiers, and clean-up. This annual event is much loved as it encourages a life-long passion for books and reading.

Central 100% Fund – Promote and monitor participation in the PTO’s most lucrative fund raiser. Please help us lead up this effort to solicit tax-deductible contributions. This funding supports PTO programs and activities. The 100% Fund Chair is a great position for those with availability during non-school hours (you set your schedule!).

Cultural Arts – Classroom – a Co-Chair is needed from October 2009 through May 2010, to ensure the assigned volunteers have their classroom schedules and available materials for the monthly presentations. Please help us facilitate bring the arts into our kids’ classrooms.
(Note – the Cultural Arts Fieldtrip Chair and Co-Chair positions have been filled.)

Halloween Play – Produce our very own PTO Halloween play. A fan favorite! No writing experience needed as we have a playwright, but we lack a producer.

Turn-off-TV Week – let’s “unplug” for a week. We need a Chairperson, or a team of chairpersons, to coordinate this annual event that encourages our kids to turn off the TV, as well as other electronic media (computers, games, music, etc.).

Another Successful Central School Halloween!

The weather was perfect, the costumes adorable (teachers and children) and the energy high at Central School.

A Big Thank you to Dawn Gmitro and Kim Jacobs for their hard work and creativity on the Halloween performance of ALLERAZZOM. The talented cast included: Jane Wilhelm, Karina Esparza, Jenny Straka, Lisa Veon, Ingrid Lulich, Robin Benoy, Diane Chaney, Cheryl Dowling, Jeannine Glavas, Maddalena Flight, Jennifer Pollack, Melinda Brom, Catherine Maye, Kim Jacobs and Dawn Gmitro.

Thank you to the room parents and teachers as they really stepped it up this year with the decorations, treats and fun in the classrooms. A special thank you to Kim Piotrowski (Lutes) for answering our babysitting request allowing two room parents to participate in the classroom.

Good fun was had by all!

Baby Sitters Needed Friday 10/31 2:15 – 3:05

Please consider helping out with baby sitting in the large gym from 2:15 until 3:05pm on Friday, October 31st during the Halloween parties. If you can commit to even 20 minutes, it will allow a parent to stop into their child’s classroom during the Halloween parties.

Halloween Window Painting Starts Thursday

It’s time to paint the town. Window painting assignments will be available at St. Mary’s (South doors by the back parking lot) on Thursday (10/16) and Friday (10/17) from 3:15pm – 4:15pm.

Here are the details for Boo Windows

Who: Ghouls in grades 1 — 5
Window assignments: pick up from St. Mary’s from 3:15pm — 4:15pm on Thursday (10/16) and Friday (10/17). Once you have your assignment, you may begin painting.
Painting Dates: 10/16 (3:15 — 5:30pm), 10/17 (3:15 — 5:30pm), and 10/18 (9:00 — 12:00pm)

Ghoulish painters will need to provide their own supplies:

Washable paint only please! School-use tempera (no acrylic/craft paint)
Paint brushes, sponges
Newspaper (to keep the sidewalk clean), water, paper towel
