Science in a Can Begins this Weekend

Posted Feb 13, 2010 | Category: Reminders

Dear Parents of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th Grade Central School Students,

Beginning this weekend your child will have the opportunity to participate in a 6-week “Science-in-a-Can” program. This is a science enrichment program sponsored by the PTO and done in cooperation with our wonderful teachers.

Here’s What You Need to Know:
Your child will be bringing home a weekly science experiment; materials needed to perform the experiment that might not be readily available at home will be contained within the can.
The cans will come home on Fridays and should be completed and returned by the following Tuesday.
Children are encouraged to complete at least 4 of the 6 experiments, and those who do, receive a “Science Achievement Certificate“.

Here’s Why It’s Exciting:
Young children are capable and eager to learn any subject—especially science!
A major goal of the Science-in-a-Can Program is to expose these youngsters to the fundamental concepts of scientific inquiry, which will give them the tools they need to question how things work, how things relate, and how to think creatively to solve problems—skills that will help them in all their future endeavors.

We encourage you to take the opportunity to perform these basic experiments and explore the fun and discovery that science has to offer.

Please ask your teachers for the photos off of their cameras. We don’t want to miss a thing!  Also, this Friday is the “Percy Jackson” movie outing. Let’s capture this fun event too!!!
